Professor Charlie Lewis joined the Campbell faculty following seven years of general practice in a small law firm in Warrenton, Virginia, serving the last five years as a partner in the firm. He obtained both his bachelor's degree and his law degree from Washington and Lee University.

He attended undergraduate school on a Robert E. Lee Scholarship, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated magna cum laude. In law school, he served as a teaching assistant, was a Burks Scholar, was elected to The Order of the Coif, and graduated cum laude.

He has co-authored Hawkland's Uniform Commercial Code Series (Article 9) and North Carolina Security Interests. He is presently serving as member and Chairman of the North Carolina General Statutes Commission.
