The American system of government is founded on two counter-balancing principles:

  • The majority of the people governs, through democratically elected representatives
  • And that power, even of a democratic majority, must be limited to ensure individual rights and civil liberties

The Campbell Law Chapter of the ACLU seeks to promote discussion and awareness of those rights and liberties, to help safeguard them, and to educate ourselves and others about them. It is our position, that civil liberties must be respected, even in times of national emergency.
