Drop-Add. Because each class in summer school is the approximate equivalent to one week during a regular session, it is impractical to add a course after the session has begun. Students who decide to drop a class before it has met for the third time may do so and receive a pro-rata refund of tuition. Students who drop a summer class beyond that time are responsible for all tuition and fees, subject to the last paragraph of this memorandum.
We have been informed by the Financial Aid Office that summer school does qualify for Financial Aid; if a student has exhausted his/her federal loan allotment for the year, however, only private loans are attainable. As always, you must be at least a Ahalf-time student@ to qualify. Half-time for law summer school is a minimum of 3 semester hours.
A Special Notice to Students Who Find Themselves in Academic Difficulty at the End of the Spring Semester: Final transcripts for the spring semester are generally not available until after summer school has begun. Students who have failed to meet the academic standards stated on the Law School Website, who are excluded from further academic study yet eligible immediately to petition, and do petition, for a waiver of the automatic exclusion rule, are generally allowed as a matter of academic grace to continue to attend those summer school classes until the faculty has taken action on those petitions. If the petition for readmission is denied, the student is administratively withdrawn from summer school and his/her tuition is refunded. Students who have failed to meet the academic standards stated in the Law School Bulletin, who are excluded from further academic study and are not eligible to petition for a waiver of the automatic exclusion rule for a period of two years, are administratively withdrawn from summer school and his/her tuition is refunded.
